All Stars crowned 2011 Panorama champions

 

Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars picked up their sixth National Panorama title at the Queens Park Savannah in Port of Spain yesterday. Performing Its Showtime, which was sung by Anslem Douglas the Port of Spain based band, who last won the title in 2007 secured 278 point from the judges.

The band was awarded $2 million for their victory by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism Winston Gypsy Peters who were on hand at the Queens Park Savannah to present the winning steelbands with the cheques. The arrangement for All Stars’ title winning song was done by Leon Smooth.

Second place in the Large Band category went to Sagicor Exodus. The band received $1 million dollars. Third place went to last year’s winner, PCS Silver Stars. They will take home $750,000.

In the Medium Band category, Katzenjammers and Valley Harps scored 275 points to tie for first place.

Pan Trinbago officials handed over a cheque for $75,000 to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. The donation will go towards the Children’s Life Fund which was established by the Prime Minister last year to provide emergency medical care and surgery for procedures which cannot be accessed in Trinidad and Tobago. Hailed as the only acoustic instrument developed in the 20th century, the steel pan is marking its 75th year in 2011.

 

The results for the Large Band category of the Panorama competition are as follows:

1st: Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars – 278 points

2nd: Sagicor Exodus – 276 points

3rd: PCS Silver Stars – 275 points

4th: Caribbean Airlines Invaders and Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove (tie) – 273 points

6th: NLCB Fonclaire: 271 points

7th: Witco Desperadoes and Petrotrin Siparia Deltones (tie) 270 points

9th: RBC/RBTT Redemption Sound Setters – 268 points

10th: Starlift – 265 points

 

The results for the Medium Band category of the Panorama competition are as follows:

 

1st: Katzenjammers and Valley Harps – 275 points

3rd: NLCB Buccooneers – 269 points

4th: Courts Sound Specials of Laventille – 268 points

5th: Pan Elders – 266 points

6th: Sangre Grande Cordettes – 258 points

7th: Arima Angel Harps and Steel Xplosion (tie) – 257 points

9th: Pamberi and Power Stars (tie) 255 points
