Why does flexibility decrease after 40?

Why is static stretching alone not enough after 40?
Static stretching lengthens muscle fibers temporarily but does not address fascial adhesions, joint capsule stiffness, or the neural component of flexibility. The protocol: stretch the target muscle to its comfortable end range, then contract it isometrically against resistance for 6 seconds at roughly 50 to 75 percent effort. Relax and immediately deepen the stretch, holding the new range for 20 to 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times. A 2012 systematic review in the Journal of Human Kinetics found that PNF produced 12 to 18 percent greater range-of-motion improvement than static stretching alone. How does foam rolling improve flexibility after 40?
